7.0 Print Documentation

When activated the Print Documentation function permits the user to choose from a number of options that will appear in the Print Options box on the screen.

7.1 Print Options

Each print option will print a file of the complete list of items in the database that was selected on one of the initial Main Menu startup screens.

To select an option,

Each of these options, when selected, will prompt the user for information similar to that displayed below in the prompt boxes in Figure 7.2.

After the print option is selected and <Enter> pressed, a series of prompt boxes will appear on the screen asking the user to specify items of information.

The user will be asked to specify a Print File Name.

The user will be asked to specify the number of Lines per Page for the print file.

The user will be allowed to Choose Field Widths for a number of print variables. A zero (0) with will surpress the print field

When all the choices have been made the user must begin the file creation by moving the highlight bar to the bottom line of the Choose Field Widths box,and

One more message will appear on the screen asking "Do want to go on? (Y/N)" Type

Type <Y> or <N> and the program will continue accordingly.

If <Y> is typed as the response, the 'working' message shown in the Print Options box in Figure 7.3 will appear displaying the Size of the file in bytes.

The print files may be found in the Output location whose path was specified in Figure 2.1.

 

7.2 Sample Print Files

As a result of the "Print Documentation" function, print file(s) are produced and placed in the output directory specified in Figure 2.1. The names and characteristics of each file are specified at the time of printing as shown in Figure 7.2.

Figure 7.4 below illustrates a file that is a sample of a List by Variable Name print file.

 

Figure 7.5 illstrates the Demo-2.CDB Codebook, sample that was created as a result of the "ProduceCodebook" function. The sample is abbreviated for space, all blank lines are left out.




Figue 7.6 illustrates two "pages" of a file called Demo-2.DOC that was produced as documentation to Demo-2.DAT as a result of "Perform an Extract" function.
