Chapter 7 - Quick Start

Several special features make the OSU CAPI software unique in survey software. Symbols may be used dynamically to refer to stored values and to index loops. Loops and nested loops can be dynamically created. Rosters add robustness to data collection. Upper and lower limits to date, time, and other answer ranges may be specified dynamically. After exploring one or all of the above links to special features you may want to continue inputting more records and use one of the special features. Eventually, when all of the records have been input and the instrument is ready for testing, it will have to be debugged and then passed to the Survey program. A series of steps should be taken to prepare the Manager question file for the Survey program.

Diagnostics should be run on the Manager records; then
The debugged Manager records must be exported from the Manager to the Survey program.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics may be run in the Manager or the designer can run diagnostics on the Manager records as an integral part of the Export function. For more information on running diagnostics, see Manager Main Menu, Diagnostic tab.

Exporting the Manager Records

Manager records must be exported to create files types that can be read by the Survey program. The exported files are usually exported to the appropriate Survey's instrument directory. To find out more on exporting Manager records, go to the Main Menu screen, the DataXfer tab, and Export Files/Patches button.
